Seminar 1 – Cannabis Awareness

Thank you for all the fantastic questions we received at the seminar and on the feedback forms. Below, we have provided our answers to the questions received.

Let’s continue the discussion until our next seminar! Feel free to reach out to us anytime with additional questions or suggestions by completing the form at the bottom of this page.

  • Where do you get your products from?
    • All certified cannabis products will be obtained from the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS), the exclusive wholesaler to recreational cannabis retail stores. Accessories can be supplied through individual wholesale agreements where Little Leaf will look to local suppliers whenever possible.
  • Will older people feel the effects more than younger people?
    • No, the effects of cannabis are individual, and age does not have a bearing on its effects. Personal attributes such as mental health, physical health and one’s previous experience will be the primary influencers.
  • Cannsultants – What’s happening with prior convictions? Background Checks?
    • Successful completion of a police background check will be a requirement for employment with Little Leaf Cannabis Co. Background checks are typically returned with either an ‘Approved’, ‘Rejected’ or ‘Criminal Record as Disclosed-Confirmed’. Those returned with a Rejected or Criminal Record as Disclosed-Confirmed will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
    • The issue surrounding prior convictions is being reviewed at the Federal level and we will be watching closely for the results.
  • Single use packaging – plastic concerns.
    • Health Canada’s guidelines for packaging indicate that it must prevent contamination of the cannabis, be tamper-proof and be child resistant. All packaging, warning signs, labels and the excise stamp have dimensional requirements that impact the amount of packaging used. Most of the packaging received is recyclable. Little Leaf will have a cannabis packaging recycle bin available at its location(s).
  • Plastic and Cannabis; contamination.
    • In our research, we have not found any indication that the plastics used in the packaging will affect the integrity of the cannabis.
    • That said, storing cannabis is best done using glass containers with a sealed lid, like a mason or canning jar. Cannabis exposed to oxygen over long periods of time convert THC to a cannabinol called ‘CBN’ a non-psychoactive cannabinoid – just like air oxidizes iron into rust, air will cause cannabis to degrade faster.  Air tight containers also prevent unwanted odours and keep the dry buds intact. Cannabis should be stored between 5-25°C with limited exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Who measures the THC level, how is it ensured to be consistent?
    • The Licensed Producers (LP’s) are responsible for the THC and CBD levels in the cannabis strains they provide. Cannabinoid content is closely monitored, lab tested and quality controlled to ensure potency levels are consistent and meet Health Canada regulations.
  • Quality assurance – How do you make sure you have the same experience every time?
    • It is not possible to guarantee the same result every time as there are many influencers that can impact the cannabis experience – Potency, Amount, Method, Terpenes, Previous Experience, Mental / Physical Health.
    • However, consuming the same strain (incl. terpenes), in the same quantity and method should derive a similar experience every time.
  • Will you sell seeds? CBD oil / capsules?
    • Aside from product availability from the Ontario Cannabis Store, Little Leaf intends to carry a full line of cannabis products and accessories.
  • Will you sell seedlings / clones?
    • More research will need to be conducted as to whether we will carry seedlings / clones at the store due to their delicate nature and required maintenance. Though it is to early to say for sure, if seedlings / clones are available at the OCS there could be an option to ‘special’ order them. Stay tuned for when we announce our product line.
  • Is ID logged when customers check in to the store?
    • Retention of personal information is, and should always be, the choice of the customer – this is an important consideration for us as we research Point-of-Sale providers. Of the companies we’ve researched so far, customer information is not retained by the retailer after scanning the ID unless agreed upon by the customer. To ensure customers do not exceed their purchasing limits under the law, Little Leaf will be notified if a previous purchase was made the same day from our store.
    • More details about information privacy and protection will be made available after acquiring our necessary licensing.
  • There are cannabis purchase limits – how do you track that?
    • Tracking purchase limits is built into the Point-of-Sale system for the protection of the customer and Little Leaf. A Cannsultant will receive a notification if a customer has made multiple purchases in a day at our store.
  • Are you connected to other stores?
    • No. We are only able to see transactions completed at any one of Little Leaf Cannabis Co. stores.
  • Shopify?
    • The Ontario Cannabis Store is the only legal way of purchasing cannabis online in Ontario. As Shopify is an online retail purchasing platform, there is no purpose to sign with Shopify at this time. Little Leaf will respond quickly to any changes in the law to better serve our customers.
  • Does government regulate your hours? What are Little Leaf’s plan for store hours?
    • Yes. Recreational cannabis retail stores are permitted to open between the hours of 9:00am – 11:00pm, 7 days per week. Little Leaf has not determined its hours of operation yet, but understands Stratford’s employment environment and will strive to accommodate all schedule types.
  • Will you have memberships at the store?
    • Yes. Little Leaf is refining a membership program for our customers. As our tagline reads: Little Leaf Big Experience; we want our customers to enjoy their cannabis purchasing experience before and after the sale with access to resources, the ability to track their purchases and experiences, easy ID verification, and many other tools to help ensure customers have everything they need to make informed decisions as you enjoy discovering the world of cannabis.
    • Current law does not permit loyalty programs; however, our membership program will always be capable of adding in a loyalty component (with prior purchase recognition) if the law changes.
  • Brussels Sprouts tasting better with terpenes?
    • Oh how we all wish that were true! Terpenes are an important component of the cannabis purchasing process – Including this in your cannabis discussion will further help in meeting your desired outcome.
  • Older people can be more sensitive to many things – does this apply to CBD?
    • While true in many cases, age is not a factor in one’s sensitivity to a specific cannabis product. The reality is that some individuals are simply more sensitive than others.
    • For those considering adopting CBD into their lifestyle for its wellness benefits should consider the following:
      • Is CBD being used to treat a specific medical condition or as part of an overall wellness program.
      • Dosing is crucial to gain the maximum benefits and for noticing any sensitivity to CBD – and dosing is different for everyone.
      • CBD is available in an array of different products with several consumption methods.
      • Sensitivity in all cases is based on an individuals genetics, biology, biochemistry, physical health, psychological health and previous experience therefore it is near impossible to determine sensitivity as we are all built differently.
      • Studies suggest CBD is not known to be toxic at any dosage level.
      • Remember the ‘L‘ in L.E.A.F.Low and Slow – Start with a low amount with low potency, gauge your bodies response, and adjust if required.
  • The rage of THC indicated on the packaging has too much leeway.
    • True, identical strains grown under identical growing conditions cannot produce identical results – as will all natural things.
    • Highly experienced consumers may be more apt in recognizing the difference if the product indicated a broad range – however a range of only 2-3% would likely go unnoticed.
  • Can you drive if you take CBD?
    • CBD products that contain less than 0.3%THC provide no intoxicating effects and therefore driving is not typically affected. However, depending on the dose and your bodies reaction, CBD’s relaxing properties can make an individual tired or sedative enough where operating a vehicle or heavy machinery could be dangerous.
  • Are we open to sharing knowledge with the medical community?
    • Little Leaf will service all of our customers to the best of our ability within the parameters of the law. We intend to source and build relationships with trusted, reliable and knowledgeable medical cannabis practitioners for referring customers to.
    • As a reminder, recreational cannabis is a separate and distinct industry to medical cannabis.
      • Recreational providers are not trained medical practitioners and cannot provide medical advice on the use of cannabis.
      • Recreational cannabis is not tax deductible.
      • Recreational cannabis providers cannot fulfill a doctor’s prescription.
      • Cannabis used to treat a specific medical condition or symptom should always be discussed with a (your) medical professional.
  • Will we have medical consultants?
    • No, as recreational cannabis providers we are not permitted to employ medical consultants. We intend to source and build relationships with trusted, reliable and knowledgeable medical cannabis practitioners for referring customers to.
